Odi’s PhD research "When a Dolphin is not a Dolphin," delved into a multidimensional analysis of imperial and colonial legacies as they resonate within the Victoria Dolphin Fountain and Fountain International plaque, Wave of Compassion, University of Sussex and the broader contours of Brighton-Hove. Symbols like the Knight of St Michael and St George medal (KCMG) which depicts St George as a white man with his foot on the neck of a Black man with the body of a dragon, and the effects that these have on wellbeing. The study commences with "Decoding Empire," an incisive examination of the Victorian Dolphin fountain and University of Sussex Coat of Arms, revealing vestiges of colonial narratives entwined in academic regalia—a stark embodiment of institutional memory ‘Triple Lock System’.
In the context of my research the notion of the 'implicated subject,' as conceptualized by Rothberg (2019), is pivotal for understanding the cognitive dissonance caused by 'White Sight' and 'Victoria Nonsense ‘Triple Lock System'.
Understanding ‘Triple lock system’ and unlocking the cognitive dissonance with ‘The 6th Sense Continuum’, underscores the pressing need to engage with the past critically and to re-evaluate the symbols and narratives that have long been embedded in the British cultural landscape.
'The 6th Sense Continuum' holds potential as a methodological tool, enriching the participatory action research framework of the thesis. It provides a paradigm through which community activism and educational efforts can be re-imagined, paving the way for more inclusive and empathetic approaches to social transformation. 'The 6th Sense Continuum' significantly contributes to the thesis's arguments by facilitating a deeper understanding of the pervasive legacies of empire and the necessary pathways toward a more equitable society. It calls for a sense of awareness that is both intuitively and critically engaged with the past and the present, urging a shift from inherited ignorance to an enlightened collective consciousness【Oquosa, 2020】.
